House Speaker Mike Johnson has ruled that transgender congressman Sarah McBride, who was born male, will have to use the men’s restroom and will not be allowed to use the women’s restroom at the Capitol.

“All single-sex facilities in the Capitol and House Office Buildings — such as restrooms, changing rooms, and locker rooms — are reserved for individuals of that biological sex,” Johnson said in a statement, Wednesday.

“It is important to note that each Member office has its own private restroom, and unisex restrooms are available throughout the Capitol,” he explained. “Women deserve women’s only spaces.”

Reps Marjorie Taylor Greene and Nancy Mace have been at the frontline of this battle, proposing legislation that would require members of congress to use the restroom that aligns with their biological sex rather than gender identity.
